In Ecuador, the Constitutional Court issued a ruling in April 2021 ordering the National Assembly to create a law to guarantee safe access to abortion in cases of rape.
The bill is still being debated. This Thursday, February 3, 2022, we were once again disappointed with the very poor level of debate of the Ecuadorian Assembly members in the 2nd debate of the bill for the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy in Cases of Rape. They are incapable of putting the lives of women, girls and people with gestational capacity at the center.
Women's and feminist organizations, as well as self-styled pro-life anti-rights groups, where most of them were religious and men, gathered outside.
