This is the chapter on Ecuador in the framework of the UNU-EHS & UNDRR Global Report 2022. RETHINKING RISKS IN TIMES OF COVID-19 / Understanding and managing cascading and systemic risks: lessons from COVID-19.

I had the opportunity to document some aspects related to how COVID-19 affected especially in a locality with overpopulation, a deficient health system and with the highest rate of informality in the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador, creating Cascading Risks.

This is the story of Dora Garcia, a social worker who fights for the rights of people with kidney failure and catastrophic diseases. At the height of the pandemic, she organized training for patients on how to cope with the coronavirus, as well as food and biosecurity assistance for those in need.
